Chora
This island rises straight out of the sea with just a fringe of village along the waterfront. Today, we took the bus to the top and planned to walk back down, but after climbing and rambling for a couple of hours, we came back down on the bus. While we were in the square, we stopped for fresh orange juice and a cold cappachino. The menu was a work of art from which I copied this poem which I thought reflected how I feel aboard Grace. I tried to buy the menu, but the owner said he couldn't sell any because so many people had removed them that he had very few left. I just had to share this with all of you.
Tonight the Moon
by K.G. KarystakisTonight the moon will fall upon
the strand, a heavy pearl.
And over me will play the mad
mad moonlight. The ruby wave will shatter
at my feet, and shatter all the stars,
From my palms two doves
will have been born; They'll rise--two silver birds--
be filled--two cups--with moonlight
sprinkle moonlight on my shoulders,
on my hair. The sea is molten gold.
I'll launch my dream to sail
upon a small boat. I'll tread a diamond
into gravel, glistening. The encircling light will seem to pierce
my heart, a heavy pearl.
And I shall laugh, And then I'll weep
....And there, there's the moonlight.I only wish that all of you could be here with us because we miss our friends and family, the one disadvantage. Our windlass parts are supposed to arrive tomorrow. Jerry will pick them up in Athens. When Maxie is back in working order, we will head East again.
