On our way
We finally broke the bonds of Rome-we think. The last 3 days have been spent in the beautiful port town of Nettuno which is just south of Anzio. We visited the American cemetery which is a beautiful tribute to the men that died in those months of '43 and '44. Almost 8000 crosses, only 35% of the total killed in the months before Italy signed the Armistice, stand in symmetrical rows beneath huge pines-among beautiful flowers. It is a beautiful resting place, but these same courageous, young men should be playing with their great granchildren right now. If I could have any wish it would be that the world's leaders could be as smart as they think they are.
We were hoping to be able to get a book about the campaign because we had so many questions, but the museum was closed for the weekend, probably getting ready for President Bush's visit next weekend.
We will sail to Ponza tomorrow, a small island northwest of Napes where we plan to anchor for a day before heading to Naples.
Tues. will be the anniversary of Jerry's first cigfree month. He is doing wonderfully. We went to a great restaurant to celebrate my coming of age (Medicare Age). It was so good we are going back tonight
Hugs and kisses xoxoxoxo . Miss you all! We feel very far away!!!
