Newport, RI
We're here! Ready for our transport to Sardinia which is now scheduled for the 12th. We arrived with 1 dead alternator, little wind, small seas & lots of rain, rain, rain. I steered manually for 60 miles, but actually loved every minute of it, since Jerry said he would be happy to spell me. There is something great about standing in a nice rain & fog in foul weather gear on a sailboat despite the problems. The Newport Yacht Club took us in at $130 a day which we were glad to pay for an electrical plug. Many thanks to Lou for much needed aid. Jerry seems to take every problem in stride, but then, he has to put up with my clank. Jerry put on our spare alternator in a trice, but we stayed for the 4th & watched the fireworks from Grace's deck with wonderful company, Lou & Sheila, Chris & Lois. Paul & Sheila, whom we had just met came for a few minutes. We had just met them the night before at the yacht club, and they left their truck with the keys in it for us to use anytime we needed it. People are wonderful everywhere we go. Lou brought hamburgers & hotdogs & potato salad, & we watched the fireworks from right off Grace's bow, a front row seat. Last year, we watched the fireworks from Charleston, NC as we sailed from Beaufort, SC to Beaufort, NC.
We are now at anchor in Bristol ready to go ashore for a lobster lunch after which we will head up the bay for Barrington where Fred & Norma will meet us & Jerry's friend, Rooks, has arranged for a mooring until we meet the transport.
