  Getting in the swing!

Last night we spent the night at Marathon Key where Jerry
cleaned the Racors yet again, and it seemed to help. We ran all
day on the port tank. It was a beautiful, perfect, sailing day.
Believe it or not, once in a while we get 1 of those. Marathon
was supposed to be a good place for resupplying, but they
didn't even have doughnuts. What kind of a resupply place
is that?
We landed tonight at Indian Key which is supposed to
be a wonderful anchorage. We will be rocked to sleep, albeit
big, gentle rocks. Tomorrow, we will challenge the Gulf Stream
if the wind is from the South, East or West or not from the North.
Today, we were able to put up all sails & sail through some
of the most beautiful water. Is there such a thing as azuremarine?
That came to mind as we sailed over dark & light spots of 18 ft.
water, mile after mile. I am amazed that Mother Nature can
make a perfectly level channel that runs for miles along the
keys with the world's 2nd largest reef guarding it from the
incursions of the ocean.
We are approx. 60 nautical miles from Miami. The doughnuts
are calling me. Hope they have Krispy Kremes.
We had the greatest treat last night. I bought steaks in
Key West, and almost died at the $17.49 a pound. I thought it
was Key West prices, but the steaks were like nothing I had ever
tasted before. I always said 1 vaca is like another vaca. It's
not true. These steaks were worth every penny. Of course,
they were very little & maybe Grace's Steakhouse helped.
Well, we didn't stay at the Indian Key Anchorage & so we
didn't stop to even do our steaks. After dropping the anchor,
we were just relaxing for a few minutes when Jerry said, "You
know, the wind is from the right direction; the ocean looks great.
What would you think if we just keep going?"
After 3 nights with little sleep, I had to think for minute, but
it really seemed like a good idea.
Up anchor and away we went with the seas on our beam. It took
awhile to get out into the Gulf Stream, 1 of my constant worries ever
since I heard it fist mentioned, but it was like any other bit of
ocean. I always worry about things until they become really monumental
& then find they aren't. The cruising magazines seem to print the
sensational, but I guess that keeps us prepared.
We are now in a slip at Miami Beach Marina, but will move to
an anchorage just off the beach. We'll miss the cable, but we did
get to watch that great game last night between the Lakers & the Kings.
I took the Lakers. Poor Jerry!
