Roatan & Our 3rd Northerly
We are anchored in a beautiful anchorage about 30 miles off the northern coast of Honduras with the wind blowing like we should be expecting 2 ft. of snow. We put out a second anchor this morning because the weather reports were of indeterminate northerlies which could mean winds from 20-? knots. So far, the highest we have clocked on our anemometer has been 35. This is definitely not my favorite part of
sailing. The night before last we got bombarded by the mosquito host, and I spent last night scratching. We have been fortunate that the mosquitoes have usually been where we are not.
In about a week, we will head for the mainland, La Ceibo
and get prepared for a trip up the Rio Dulce in Guatemala.
We have too deep a draft, but we have been told that we
can be pulled overthe bar and into the river which winds
through deep canyons covered with exotic flora and inhabited by exotic fauna. So far, everything we have done has been better than expected, but the pulled over the bar part doesn't excite me too much.
